Lesbian Versus Straight Life

A lesbian woman's sexual orientation happens to be towards other women and a straight woman is attracted to men. As of now it isn't unusual for the lesbian women to be stigmatized and face flak in the society. Thus there are many lesbians who in fact choose to live the life of a straight woman as they fear the reactions of their families in case they come out in open about their sexual preferences. They might also suffer as a result of homophobic reactions of the people.

Although things have improved a wee bit as in there are women who are coming out in the open about their sexual orientation. However, the fact of the matter is that the number of women coming out in the open happens to be a relatively very small percentage of the lesbians actually present in the society. Even as far as religion is concerned most of them have a negative stance towards same sex relationships. The extremely conservative factions of certain religions also believe orientation towards the same sex as a sort of mental disorder which is an agonizing fact for the lesbians. However, there is a liberal faction that believes the exact opposite of what the conservative faction believe. This faction believes that one's sexual orientation is a natural thing and it is not something that can be altered by a person's will. Keeping in account all these factors, the life of a straight woman is a tad easier as she does not have to go through a public trial each time she steps out of the house.

It isn't unusual for the lesbians to take up smoking and drinking in a big way as a result of the social pressures that they face at every step right from inside their homes to their workplaces. The lesbians are known to have taken to alcoholism and substance abuse also. Apart from this the lesbians are also at a greater risk of suffering from cancer as compared to straight women. Bearing children as well as breast-feeding the children greatly reduces the incidence of the breast cancer. However as lesbians don't bear children at all or they might do it at a late age this puts them at a greater risk. It has also been observed that many of the lesbians choose to do away with the tests for cancer due to the fear of being misunderstood by the doctors.

Although, one can choose to live life as a straight woman rather than as a lesbian considering the amount of hurdles that one has to cross, it is always better to weigh your options carefully. It's your life after all and you would rather like to spend it with a partner of your choice rather than the choice of a partner forced down your neck form whom you don't feel any attraction or share vibes.
